The below report just came in from Cagayan de Oro via email.

Hello Everyone'

'Sorry for the late news, it's just hard to get Wifi here with our
busy schedule.

It's Saturday morning here and today we will be helping to build a
descent shelter for a pastor here in Cagayan de Oro. We haven't seen
the place yet but Pastor Jun said that where they live now, which they
call parsonage looked very depressing especially after a rain where
they walk around the place on mud. Please pray that we'll be used to
bless him and the family with the resources we have.

So far, we have done two clinics and visited several schools, jail and
a police academy. I was in the clinics most of the time but according
to reports, all of the police officers and recruits numbering to about
500 came forward during the prayer call.

God is really doing great and mighty things we do not know and we are
just so blessed to be here.

I will try to send you more updates and in behalf of the team, thank
you for all your prayers and the other means of support you provided.

ER 2011 Philippines

The team is making last minute preparations and are near ready for departure to the Philippines. Medical brigades, clothing, food, concerts and seminars are all elements of the team.

This is last year's team.

This is one of the medical brigades from last year...people waiting to be treated.

The June/July "ER Team" is a group and team that Pure Works supports by providing medicine and medical supplies. This year, Pure Works, through King Benevolent Fund, provided more than $4,000 worth of wholesale medicine. The ER Team packs the medicine and take it with them in their luggage. The medicine is used to treat those who are sick, those most vulnerable in the Philippines.

ER Philippine Team Returns

This has been a great mission trip this year in the Philippines! Here's a couple shots provided by ER Team Member Michelle Callejas, below left treating a baby. The medicine is a donation either in all or part by Kingsway Charities through Pure Works. For more information on this mission, see the ER Team website.

There are many different types of medicines that are donated and used in medical brigade missions. They include both over-the-counter and prescriptive medicines. Medical Brigade leaders plan in advance to coordinate doctors, nurses and other volunteers to come together and provide services for vulnerable individuals who are not able to afford the cost of seeing a doctor, or the medicine, and have no insurance. Leaders and volunteers from the mission team are from both the United States and country of the mission.

In the Philippines, Pure Works helps set up long-term, mutually beneficial relationships and partners with like-minded people and organizations who are interested in reaching out and helping those in need.

Talked with the Warden that opened door. They kept saying, "no" but finally Randy's role in the states helped (along with much prayer) and the guard opened the door! There was no time to see the men of this jail.

Here below is a schedule for the evangelical outreaches that we pray you will consider aiding with ushers and pastors to help "keep" the "catch" through the evangelical outreach via basketball and medical brigades and other efforts in each of the cities below. These are effective and we need your participation if possible.

Typhoon Ondoy and Peping (Filipino names) victims in the Philippines are now being treated by the International Emergency Health Kit (IEHK) sent by MAP International last week. The shipment cleared Monday, Filipino time, which was Sunday for those in the U.S.

Most all know typhoons have wrought utter havoc in the Philippines. In this state of emergency, we're grateful for having been contacted by MAP International requesting we help coordinate aid recipients in the Philippines.

As a result, today, 2000 pounds of medicine lands in Manila from Amsterdam. This ton of medicine will sustain the needs of 10,000 people for three months. Jun and Lisa Canoy are missionaries and are part of the leadership team for the ER Pilipino missions and are also Pure Works Project Partners.

Here are the highlights of the 2009 ER Philippines Mission from Lisa sent in an email from her to me and others today.

From our leaders meeting these are the conservative stats that we could all confirm and the results/impact made in each ministry venue. (Pastor Ben some of the repeat for you)

Discipleship Training Weekend ( 3 days in Cagayan de Oro)
- Our Purpose: To equip young emerging leaders in the discovery of who they are in God, how has he equipped them for the work of the ministry and to see release in their spiritual gifting’s into God's mission to the world.

Evaluation: Approximately 350 young people ages 12-20's attended from surrounding cities of Valencia, Illigan, Gingoog and other areas. We observed a real hunger for God and many responding to a desire to be involved in full time ministry. The delegates received teaching from Pastor Tom Johnson, Pastor Mike Perkinson, Pastor Ben Hirsch, Pastor Ron Rezendes and Pastor Mark Knister. They participated in a downtown prayer walk and a feeding/evangelistic outreach to approximately 500 people. This ministry opportunity was the highlight of the two week trip for many of the US participants. It was well organized and well received. Future 1 week discipleship training sessions will be evaluated for the future.

Basketball Outreach

Our Purpose: To make Jesus Christ known in the context of a quality basketball game/friendship game environment.

Evaluation: 8 games were played in 6 cities. We had a surprise response from Manila-Asia TV coverage and solid contacts/doors opened for future games/events.

Approximately 20,000 people total attended during the 8 games. The gospel was presented through dance/drama and preaching of the word during half time rest periods. Difficulty to evaluate the exact impact on salvations/church growth at the time of the outreach as a stadium game atmosphere and language barriers for direct one on one dialogue is a challenge. Jun will continue to be in contact with the Pastors in the areas where the games were held for f/u response over the next several months.

Food and Clothing Outreach - (Barangay Opal and Kapatagan)

Our Purpose: To partner with indigenous churches w/ church planting efforts through the medium of tangible, material items and sharing of the gospel.

Evaluation: The Opal outreach incorporated the delegates from the Discipleship Training Session and was a good tangible example of how they can practically reach out to their local communities. There were approx 500 in attendance which included many mothers and their children. The all received food, a clothing item, a few practical medical items and each family was prayed for by the discipleship delegates.

The Kapatagan outreach we partnered w/ 12 local pastors from different denomination and their congregations reaching approximately 1000 attendees. Clothing was handed out in very creative and fun fashions as well as practical household items. Very well received; this is a great open door for further ministry in this mountain community of 15,000.

Leadership Training (2 Days in Davao)

Our Purpose: To train local pastors and leaders in the Davao area, equipping them w/ tools and focus for serving Jesus in their local church context.

Evaluation: Pastor Ron, Mike, Tom and Mark each shared over the 2 days. There were approximately 200 pastors in attendance from Davao proper and surrounding area. Not as well attended as previous leadership seminars in past years. Definite need for greater prayer for walls to be broken among the different denominations and unity and working together among the churches in this city. Had some difficulty in follow through on the part of the local contacts.

Medical Clinics (5 medical clinics in total)

Our Purpose: To reach people with the gospel and point them to the Great Physician by addressing and servicing practical health needs, specifically among impoverished areas and to women, children and elderly.

Evaluation: Approximately 1300 pt were served. Of those registration forms that were turned in:

We had several challenges with many of the doctors and dentists this year-several lack commitment and in one clinic the doctors just got up and left. Unwarranted concern by some of the city doctors regarding exposure to Swine Flu while being in contact with the US team. In future outreach alternative methods of recruiting and placement of the clinics will be under consideration.

Campus Ministry (Illigan, Valencia, Panabo, Davao)
Our Purpose: To share the gospel among High School and College Campuses utilizing the Arts and the Word; to pray for the needs of the students and increase awareness of need/resources available for indigenous campus ministries.

Evaluation: In total 12 schools were visited. In some of the schools there was opportunity for one on one prayer and sharing. Different approaches to sharing were a challenge at times. Several campus allowed for drama/dance/song/preaching of the word, while others the ministry team had to partner with existing local campus ministry leaders and do a prayer walk and speak w/ students briefly one on one in-between classes. The later was more of a challenge. In the schools that allowed for full evangelistic presentation approximately 300 up to 500+ students were in attendance.

African Shade Project

Team members are still rolling in from the recent mission to the Philippines. More pics soon, AND... a new mission trip for the Philippines is in the works for November through Art Pena in Washington. Medicine was ordered this last week with more meds being ordered this week; stay tuned for more news on this group!

Basketball games are part of the strategy in gathering interest from large groups of Philippines. Add a US team and it really attracts a lot of attention and a big crowd. Pilipinos love basketball!

Here's one of the groups from the Philippines that joined the ER Mission Team this year. They volunteered in the medical brigades, student outreaches at high-schools and universities.

Activities at events included medical attention for those who were sick, music, drama, food, and the new "hit" activity from last year, basketball!

We also got another Facebook update from Tom Johnston in Cagayan de Oro: the team is now heading to Bukidnon, then to Davao City. Tom reported 300 young leaders are rocking the place.

Just got a tweet from Ben Hirsch early this morning and Philippines mission team. They arrived safe in Cagayan de Oro and are preparing for medical brigades and student outreaches. Hope to have more news and pics here, soon.

Thirty-nine team members are there. Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers.

Also, Faustin Soneka has left and is now in Philadelphia. He will be there for a short time and then back to Zambia, Africa where he will be teaming up more with Watton Kawala. This should bring a greater strength for the work that needs to be done there.

Faustin and Brian discussed last night's service and how this was the second year Faustin has visited "the bridge" Foursquare church in San Mateo, California.

They also spoke of Brian coming to Zambia and how much his talents and ministry would be utilized there when he makes the trip.

Next stop: Healdsburg, California this coming Sunday, 10AM at Hope Chapel - 321 East Street, in Healdsburg, California where Faustin will reunite with Pastor Mark Williams, who visisted Zambia and Faustin in the Pure Works 2006 mission.

Rich joins the 2009 Embrace & Reach Band

I'm looking forward to joining the 2009 ER Band for two song-sets at two different churches this coming Sunday. Dennis Pintal and I will lead the group. I'm also looking forward to introducing some new material. These are generally strong rallying points for churches to become aware and excited about the difference their participation in missions can bring. These particular meetings will help generate funding for the mission at the end of this month in the Philippines.

District Missions Pastor

Rich Young has been formally recognized as a liaison for more than one-hundred San Francisco Bay Area pastors and their mission work objectives. Therefore, an immediate, new change of steps for Pure Works will be implemented. They are: 1) revise/establish new goals, but that remain consistent with the Pure Works mission statement; 2) determine and define collaborative capacity; 3) revise/improve strategies reflecting newly found collaborative capacity; 4) establish tactics that are practical, effective and will yield greatest impact.

Rich Young says, "It is difficult to quickly ascertain just how much this mutually beneficial relationship will increase our impact on the world's most vulnerable." Rich continues, "It is safe to say it will be more than a little."

Pure Works is grateful to Pastor Ron Pinkston, the District Supervisor of ICFG, for the appointment and commitment to mission's within the district.

Rich Young was careful to emphasize that the joint-mission projects, their planning and implementation would be subject to the approval and oversight of Pastor Ron Pinkston and ICFG.

The end of a long week

Rich and I were just talking about the last five days. I can't recall the last time that I've been this insanely busy. As our week comes to an end, Rich is heading home and I'm heading off to Disneyland for a few more days of rest. We're going to keep on blogging here once we return and get some rest, so be sure to keep checking up on us as we begin to work on the fruits of the labor from the past few days.

2008 Pure Works Burundi mission partner, Leopold Banzubaze (from Burundi Foursquare in Burundi, Africa) spoke at the Foursquare Convention last night in Anaheim, California; great meeting! Pure Works 2008 Burundi mission partners also included Heart's Without Borders and The Church On The Way. Most importantly, the effort yielded the delivery of a large quantity of medicine by container and through mission team members, the treatment of more than 70,000 medical applications, several thousand decisions for Christ, 315 water baptisms, and the feeding of many children. Significant impact was due to the extensive collarative project efforts and further underscored by a $90,000+ grant from the Foursquare Foundation.

Yesterday was full of very beneficial meetings. We started in the morning at about 11am or so and met with at least 4 different groups of folks who are working in the missions field. More details will come as we are able to cement in some support work for these groups, and we still have a couple more really busy days ahead of us.

Can you believe that Rich just got done riding his bike 140 miles only 24 hours before. Doesn't he look fresh?

Rich made it 140 miles over a two day period that included some of the crazyiest mountains I've ever seen. He was amazing and a true inspiration. Rich was a true example of what it means to give it your all. Even when the times were tough and the hills kept coming, Rich continued to forge on only stopping to take small breaks to catch his breath. He's an example of dedication and commitment.

Rich has retired from the rest of the ride, but the team rides on. This evening, the remaining team members will ride in to Newark to complete the 200 mile journey.

The day is not over for Rich or myself. Tonight, we head off to the Foursquare Connection in Anaheim where we will be meeting with Foursquare church representitives from around the world. Rich is resting now and getting ready for our flight tonight.

Pure Works currently has several aid projects planned for the coming months and years and the funds raised during this ride will help support these aid missions.
